On Christmas Eve 1968 astronaut William Anders captured a bright blue Earth rising above the grey surface of the moon against a deep black backdrop. His photograph – dubbed “Earthrise” – would become one of the most iconic pictures in existence and a symbol for the emerging environmental movement.
50 years later, the three astronauts of the Apollo 8 mission look back on their unique experience, still marveling about the sublime beauty of our planet.
